ChrisFix already filmed Gen 2 and Gen 3 swaps (Gen 2, Gen 3). Those videos exist. They are not a substitute for hybrid-safety training, insulated tools, or the judgment to stop.
Who should open a pack
Someone trained and equipped for high-voltage work — a Toyota dealer technician, an independent hybrid shop, a mobile installer who does this every week, or a NexPower-certified installer if you are buying their modules and want the longer warranty.
NexPower’s published warranty is 2 years unlimited miles with a certified installer and 1 year DIY. That difference is not only marketing. It is also a hint about who they trust with the case open.
What you can do without opening the HV case
- Load-test or replace the 12-volt.
- Scan with Dr. Prius / Dr. Hybrid and a Veepeak OBDCheck BLE — the adapter that app documents. Battery health only, not a pack install.
- On Gen 3, ask a shop to inspect the battery fan and filter.
- Decide among paths on the hub and cost pages.
If you ignore this page
Shock, arc flash, and a pack that can still hold charge after the key is out are not theoretical. We will not help you do it anyway in a follow-up email. Hire a pro.
